[Mineral Resources] There are more than ten kinds of minerals in Wenchang, including iron, tungsten, titanium, chromium, lead, aluminum, cobalt, coal, zircon sand, gemstone, crystal, quartz sand, kaolin, etc. There are dozens of small and medium-sized ore bodies with a total reserves of about 41 million tons (data from the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1959). As of the end of 2015, the main minerals being mined are titanium ore (located in the coastal zone of Puqian, Jinshan, Fengpo, and Wengtian) and quartz sand (located in the coastal zone of Longma and Longlou). According to the data of the geology and mining department, the coastal zone of Mulantou in the front of Puqian has been proved to have a very rich quartz sand deposit, and the seabed in the eastern sea area also contains oil and natural gas with great exploitation value.
[Animal Resources] Terrestrial animals mainly include beasts, snakes, reptiles, insects and birds. There are more than 100 wild birds, more than 100 insects, and dozens of other species. Aquatic animals mainly include fish, shrimp, crab, shellfish and some unique marine animals (such as sea urchin, sea cucumber, jellyfish, sea horse, sea dragon, sand bug, etc.). There are more than 30 kinds of shellfish, nearly 100 kinds of fish, and more than ten kinds of shrimp and crab.
[Plant resources] Terrestrial plants mainly include food crops (including rice, corn, sorghum, millet, potatoes, beans and other miscellaneous crops), vegetables and fruits (watermelon and winter melon are more produced), tropical and subtropical fruits (lychee, longan, carambola, rose apple produce more). There are also oil crops based on peanuts and sugar crops based on sugar cane, as well as tropical cash crops based on coconut, betel nut, rubber, and pepper, and other agricultural plants such as wild green manure. In terms of forest vegetation, there are more than 500 woody plants in the city (including nearly 100 kinds of flowers), casuarina forest belts surrounding coastal beaches, and more than ten kinds of bamboo and nearly 1,000 kinds of grasses.⠼/span>The aquatic plants are more famous as a class of marine tidal flats collectively known as "mangroves", which are rare wild plants protected by the state. The city's mangrove area totals nearly 3,000 hectares. In addition, other marine plants are mainly underwater algae, such as unicorn, agar, cauliflower, horsetail, laver, fork and kelp. Among them, unicorn and stone cauliflower are the chemical, pharmaceutical and food raw materials with high economic value, and Gracilaria, seaweed and kelp can be used as edible. Freshwater plants mainly include lotus root, duckweed, scallion and water lily.
[Natural Landscape Tourism Resources and Nature Reserves] In terms of natural landscape tourism resources, there are a large number of scenic spots in Wenchang. There are mainly Tongguling National Nature Reserve (international eco-tourism area), east suburb coconut forest scenic area, Qinglan Gaolong Bay tourist area, Huiwen Fengjiawan tourist area, Puqian Mulan Bay tourist area. East Road Celebrity Mountain Bird Nature Reserve and Bamen Bay Mangrove Nature Reserve, etc. There is also the Dongjiao Aerospace Theme Park under development and construction. There are 4 nature reserves in Wenchang, in addition to the above-mentioned 3 places of Longlou Tongguling, East Road Celebrity Mountain and Bamen Bay Mangrove, there are also coastal coral reef reserves in the city.
